Camels will feature in the upcoming Derby Christmas Market, it has been revealed.

The animals, from Joseph’s Amazing Camels, will make an appearance at the Market Hall event on December 7.

The fully domesticated animals have featured in programmes including Countryfile, Location, Location, Location and Country Tracks.

TV star Kokoso, who once appeared in the E-Harmony advert, will be one of three camels accompanying the three wise men at the event.

The Christmas Market will see a wide variety of promotional activities, including a visit from Dr Who and his Daleks and Laurel and Hardy.

There will also be classic cars, medieval characters, Christmas elves, stilt walkers, magicians, the Bustler Street Food market and a Christmas craft fair.

The characters represent a new series of major market events programmed for next year, a spokesman for Derby City Council said.

Markets manager Cassandra Carruthers said: “These are exciting times for Derby Market Hall.

“And while there are major development works taking place at the market, we will endeavour to keep customers engaged with a series of regular promotions that give a flavour of what to expect from the new Market Hall after the works are completed.”

Derby Market Hall trader Paige Poynton from the popular Poyntons stall will make her debut television appearance, presenting a television commercial to promote the special one day Christmas Market.

The Christmas Market takes place at Derby Market Hall on Saturday, December 7 from 10am to 4pm.
