Below are our favourite three walks to go on within the Great Longstone area, and a meal at the White Lion that would be perfect to finish the walk with!

1. Monsal Dale

Starting from the Monsal Head, which is around a 10 minute walk from The White Lion, Monsal Dale is a truly beautiful Derbyshire walk.

Once a support for trains travelling between Buxton and Bakewell but since the closure of the railway the viaduct is now part of the Monsal Trail route, popular with walkers and cyclists. Best of all, this walk is completely adaptable, as you’re able to walk the trail for as long as you like before turning around. A suggested route for your walk can be found here.

Following your walk we would recommend you try The White Lion’s burger. Served with golden chips, salad, coleslaw and homemade ketchup – its the perfect meal to fill you up!

2. Lathkill Dale

Situated only a short 10 minute drive from Great Longstone, the Lathkill Dale route we have chosen will take you along the beautiful River Lathkill, past sights such as Head Cave, and Sheepwash Bridge. Best of all the route is circular, so no navigational worries! You can view the walk by clicking here

Following the walk you’ll have likely built up quite the appetite, so pizza will be perfect! Two pizzas and a bottle of wine are only £25 from Monday to Friday at The White Lion – perfect for an after walk treat!
