A Derby pub has been crowned the best in the East Midlands!
The Smithfield, in Meadow Road, will now battle it out against 15 other pubs to be named the best in the country.
The alehouse was handed the accolade by the Campaign for Real Ale, or CAMRA, an organisation which promotes traditional British pubs.
The pub was also named best pub in Derby for both 2018 and 2019.
The new title means the pub will get to feature in the new Good Beer Guide, released in a fortnight, along with the 15 other regional winners.
The overall national winner is set to be announced in February 2020.
Landlady Emily Bowler, who runs the pub with her partner Ben Miller, said the announcement came as a total shock.
The 34-year-old, of Belper, said: “I’m shocked. We didn’t expect it at all.
“It’s huge, it’s massive. We are now up against the top 15 CAMRA pubs in the country.
“We don’t really understand it because we just do what we do.”
Emily and Ben say they always try to make their customers feel welcome.
The announcement comes just two weeks ahead of the publication of CAMRA’s annual Good Beer Guide, which identifies the very best pubs serving real ale across the country.
Each of the contenders highlights something unique about Britain’s pub scene, ranging from bustling micropubs to traditional coaching inns.
