It’s the third year of The Peak District Highland Games and you’re invited!
The official Peak District Highland Games are taking place very soon, held at the magnificent Matlock Farm Park on Sunday 25th August, from 10.00am-5.30pm.
This fantastic full day event is backed by the official tourist board, Visit Peak District and Derbyshire who, along with five other Peak District organisations, are official partners for the Games, sponsoring individual strong man challenges and providing super prizes on Matlock Farm Park’s facebook page in the build up to the event.
The day features around 12 of the country’s leading strong men, who regularly compete at international level and hold regional and national titles in the UK. These Goliaths will compete against each other in a schedule of events throughout the day – a seismic spectacle for all!
A professional MC will be on-site all day to commentate on events for the duration of the Highland Games. Based in the lawned arena, the crowd can cheer on the contenders in the following competitions:
- Tossing of the Caber
- 6 Tonne Tractor Pull
- Matlock Medley (Stone Throw, Duck Walk and Yoke)
- Carrying of the Stone of Destiny
- Log Press
- The Peak District Dinnie Stone Challenge (Legendary, historical Dinnie stones originated in Scotland and now the Peak District has their own, based at Matlock farm Park!)
- Spectator Tug of War (Public vs Strong Men!)
The fun doesn’t stop there though, as there is a whole array of other exciting activities taking place on the day.
A Scottish Piper Band will be opening and closing the ceremony. There will be a mini market of craft and food stalls and a Peak Ales Beer & Gin Garden to sit and relax in.
The fun continues for all the family, as there will also be a children’s assault course, children’s entertainer (The Great Lorenzo), Bucking Bronco for the adults & a Gladiator Duel for children!
Finally, on top of all this amazing fun, the usual delights of Matlock Farm Park, such as Sheep racing, Wallaby encounters, Ferret racing, Meerkat talks, Pony rides, indoor and outdoor play and more will of course be available for all to enjoy.
