The Best Pictures From Day One of Ashbourne Shrovetide 2020!

There were thrills and spills on Shrove Tuesday

Ashbourne Shrovetide 2020 has already produced plenty of thrills and spills around the town and we have got some great photographs to share with you.

The ball was up in the trees and down in Henmore Brook, over cricket and rugby pitches and across fields. Mostly though it has been in the hug.

The Up’ards and the Down’ards were battling since 2pm yesterday to get the ball to their respective goals and we have selected some of the best pictures from today’s play.

At the time of writing the Up’ards had a slight advantage, attempting to make their way to Sturston Mill, to the east of the town.

To goal, the Down’ards will have to get the ball to the old Clifton Mill, just over a mile south west of Ashbourne town centre.

Now that the 5.30pm cut-off has passed, if there is a goal, play will stop until tomorrow (today).
