Awful news coming in surrounding one of the worst cases of modern day slavery ever.
Police have rescued a suspected victim of modern slavery who has been living in a shed for 40 years.
Officers from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) found the 58-year-old man inside a confined, six foot shed in Carlisle, Cumbria, with nothing but a chair and soiled bedding.
It is believed that the man was made to carry out unpaid work for over 40 years, since the age of 16 to 17 and forced to live in inhumane living conditions, without heating or hygiene.
A 79-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of modern slavery offences.
He has been questioned by police and was freed under investigation on Friday.
This truly terrible story comes as a shock due to the shear length of time this torture was dragged out for.
Police said that when the man was found, he looked very confused and like ‘a rabbit in the headlights’.
It was also said that it was unclear whether the man had ever attempted to escape, and it would take some time for him to open up.
