‘This has been my dream for as long as I can remember’

A Derbyshire mum’s dream will come true when she opens her first cake shop this weekend.

Owner Kautar Ben Abdellah is excited to open the new Drip and Drizzle Bakery store in Hallam Fields Road, Ilkeston.

The mum-of-one has so far been working from home to grow her business through online and phone orders.

But after spending two years building her customer base, the 28-year-old has decided the time is right to open her first shop on Saturday, December 14.

She said: “I’ve always had a massive love for food and baking, it is something I grew up with from childhood.

“The goal of Drip and Drizzle is for cake lovers to be able to satisfy all their cake needs under one roof.

“We do cupcakes, brownies, celebration cakes for birthdays, wedding cakes, chocolate dipped strawberries – there is a very limited amount of things that we don’t do.

“Our signature cakes are our cookie dough brownies and blondies, which consist of a layer of brownie or blondie, topped with cookie dough, which is stuffed with a filling, and finished with a white chocolate ganache and toppings.”

Kautar, who was born in the Netherlands, came to the UK six years ago and built up experience working as a shop manager.

Now looking forward to fulfilling her dream of running her own store, Kautar added: “I came to the country in 2013, I’m originally Dutch. I was born in Holland and my parents were both immigrants from Morocco.

“When I came to the UK, I started off as a waitress in a restaurant, and then worked as a manager at Morrisons and Home Bargains.

“Then I had my daughter and started baking for fun while on maternity leave.

“The fun snowballed into orders and I started baking full-time from home around looking after my daughter.

“I’m so excited to open next weekend, I think there will be a lot of happy tears on opening day.

“This has been my dream for as long as I can remember.”
