Man charged after bomb threat at Derby police station

A man has been charged with making a bomb threat at Derby’s main police station.

St Mary’s Wharf station was evacuated after a suspicious package was handed in.

Derbyshire police say he has now been charged with “communicating a bomb threat”.

The police station was evacuated for almost two hours while a bomb disposal unit attended the scene. Officers blocked off Prime Parkway at around 12.40pm and told businesses to stay inside their buildings.

The package was destroyed by a controlled explosion and the road re-opened just before 3pm.

A spokesperson from Derbyshire police thanked nearby businesses for their patience while they resolved the situation.
