Ilkeston Leisure Centre Lifeguards have been praised after they saved the life of a swimmer who got into difficulty at the pool!
It was a relatively normal day at Ilkeston Leisure Centre, until the on-duty lifeguards spotted a man – in his late 60’s – who was in distress in the main pool and dived in to save him.
Realising the man wasn’t breathing, lifeguards and a team leader at the leisure centre performed CPR and used the centres defibulator until paramedics arrived.
An air ambulance was despatched to transport the man to hospital, landing on the bowling green at Victoria Park.
The incident occurred on the 18th December, and the man involved has since made a swift recovery – much in thanks to the amazing actions of the Lifeguards at Ilkeston, as well as the emergency services involved!
