An indoor go-karting centre has been planned for a prominent Derby building!

Northcliffe House, the former home of the Derby Telegraph, has been earmarked for transformation by the UK’s largest indoor go-karting company.

TeamSport has applied to Derby City Council to turn the former print hall and distribution area into a track for go-karts.

This area, about the size of ten tennis courts is currently occupied by self-storage firm Storage 4U.

If the plans are given the go-ahead, the ground floor of the Meadow Road building would be revamped to include space for a track and hospitality areas.

The planning application states that the new centre could create around 30 jobs, including six full-time roles.

Documents submitted by Savills, on behalf of TeamSport, said: “At each of their centres, TeamSport has successful ongoing relationships with their landlords and they also build excellent relationships within the local community.

Soon to arrive? A new indoor go-karting circuit in Derby!

“All of their employees are recruited from the local area and usually comprise up to 30 staff. Overall TeamSport employ over 900 staff across the UK.

“In recent years there has been a significant increase in the popularity of karting as a result of the interest in Formula One. As such, there is an opportunity to meet the local demand through the provision of an indoor centre in this location.”

TeamSport operates 34 centres in cities such as London, Coventry, Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle and Cardiff, predominantly on industrial estates.

According to the plans, which also cover permission for external signs, the track would be open from 9am to 11pm, seven days a week.

“The development proposal offers the opportunity to secure sustainable employment generation and economic growth, with a use that is most suited to industrial properties and locations such as this.”
