Ken and Anne Gould spent over 40 years running shops together – and are now preparing to celebrate 60 years of marriage!
Ken and Anne Gould met in 1956 – whilst both working at Anne’s fathers ironmongers shop – Shaw Brothers.
After the pairs first date, which was to the cinema, the couple dated for three years – in which the couple kept their romance alive by writing letters, as Ken was serving two years national service in Germany.
Once married, the pair took over running their first ever business – Anne’s parents Fairfield Corner Shop, which they ran successfully for over 20 years.
Following the success of running the Fairfield Cornershop the pair opened B Bunkers Ltd Pottery and hardware store on Buxton’s Market Place, and agree that the secret to their happy marriage has been ‘working hard together’.
The pair said: “In all of our businesses we’ve had a brilliant time – we’ve just enjoyed it and the challenge of retail” – we wish Ken, Anne, their children and grandchildren all the best as the amazing anniversary approaches!
