Looking for a great Pub to visit in 2019? Well look no further than The Cow, Ashbourne!
This past week we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit The Cow in Ashbourne. Included in our visit was dinner, an overnight stay, and breakfast – starting 2019 in style!
The Cow, Dalbury has recently been named in The Times Weekend Supplement as No1 in ‘Britain’s 30 best summer pubs’. They have also been shortlisted for many prestigious awards including the Casual Dining Awards which will be announced shortly in February, giving the amazing team at The Cow recognition of transforming an iconic Derbyshire pub.
During our stay, we felt three key aspects of our experience at The Cow elevate it above the many good Pubs situated in Derbyshire. These three reasons are why we would strongly recommend you visit The Cow in 2019!
1. The Accommodation
From the moment we were shown to our room by one of The Cow’s friendly staff, we were blown away by the room’s stunning “Shabby Chic” decor.
Not only did we love our room’s interior, but the attached terrace had stunning views of the garden, and the countryside beyond. The perfect place to enjoy your complimentary espresso on a brisk Derbyshire morning.
The super king size bed meant we were guaranteed a great nights sleep, though it was hard to switch off the 55″ 4K TV we were treated to!

2. The Food
Once checked in, we had the opportunity to sample The Cow’s dinner menu. The Cow’s 30-mile menu of stunning locally sourced food is complimented by a fine range of premium beverages steered by season! A particular favourite of ours was the chargrilled flatbreads which we had as starters. The aubergine & chestnut dip that accompanied the flatbreads was unlike any dip we had sampled before, and was delicious!
When staying at The Cow, you are treated to a complimentary breakfast – which we took complete advantage of! Included is not only a selection of fresh continental options, but also a variety of cooked options – the local sourdough toast included with our scrambled eggs and bacon was delightful. Great to see The Cow supporting local business.

3. The Location
The Cow’s casual dining restaurant/bar has been stripped back to reveal the heritage and character of the original 19C building which has created many a talking point. The rural and peaceful Derbyshire location of Dalbury makes The Cow an ideal base for corporate visitors to local industry, as well as, leisure clients visiting the sublime Derbyshire and Peak District countryside.
With great walks around Osmaston, Tissington and Brassington all within a 15 minute drive, The Cow is perfectly placed as a base for all of your Derbyshire walks.
If the weather isn’t ideal for walking then do not fear, with a host of shops less than 20 minutes away in Ashbourne, you’ll never be stuck for things to do!
